What Mobile Awards 2009

October 23, 2009

Last night at the swanky Jalouse private members club in Mayfair, What Mobile announced the years big winners in the mobile industry at the annual What Mobile Awards. With awards in various categories at the prestigious ceremony up for grabs, who’s struck gold in the past 12 months? Well the Mobiles Blog were on hand to cover the event and though a little blurry eyed this morning, we’re here to give you the full story.

BlackBerry picked up to awards winning best mobile app with the Facebook for BlackBerry app and best business phone with the 8520 Curve. As the awards are nominated by the public you can’t really criticise but i would argue that the Curve 8900 is the more appropriate choice with the 8520 appealing more to younger users but there you go. The HTC Hero picked up best Smartphone and it was a double win for Android OS as the new kid on the OS block also picked up the Editors Choice award. Best music phone went to the excellent Sony Ericsson W995, the flagship member of the Walkman range whilst mobile network Orange picked up the gong for, yep you guessed it, Best network.

Elsewhere, TomTom unsurprisingly bagged the best navigation application award which was surprisingly the only award that Apple’s iPhone could share in the glory. Nokia picked up best manufacturer despite an unconvincing year with some lackluster launches and losing some ground in market share. The big winner of the night was LG with the BL40 Chocolate picking up mobile phone of the year. The New Chocolate won you over with its incredible 4 inch wides screen display, excellent touchscreen user interface and a wealth of multimedia options. If you need further persuasion of the LG Chocolates virtues, click here to read our full review.
