Whilst the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 is running, it’s the biggest event on the viewscreen. Announcements, speeches, contests and blatant advertising run amok in Las Vegas, Nevada, this week. To keep you informed of rumours and updates, let’s turn our attention solely on the CES 2012.
Apple’s Soft Presence Continues
Although Apple is leaving the CES arena, it still has presence at this year’s event. Not counting its own booths and displays and accompanying personnel, it is rumoured that up to 250 employees are wandering among competitors’ booths and displays, including Apple’s head of iOS marketing.
Speculation abounds that Greg Joniak, the marketing exec, is getting a head start on Apple’s own, independent events by getting anonymous, close-up peeks at the competitors and their products.
Considering Apple’s history of involvement in copyright and patent lawsuits, some wonder what might appear on future lititation schedules – from one party or another.
Sprint Walks Tall at CES
Everyone who follows the mobile industry has known that Sprint will retail the LTE-enabled Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but the model about which we heard we believed was the 16-GB memory model. Sprint hinted that they will be selling a 32-GB memory version, which elevates their alleged model above others on the memory tier.
Also apparently updated and improved is the handset’s speed: Other models of smartphones note speeds at 1.2 GHz, the processor speed has been bumped up to 1.5 GHz, another improvement surprise. Perhaps the LTE radio it packs might be the reason for the need of a higher speed, in addition to higher transfer rates overall.
Whilst the exact release date hasn’t been announced, Sprint is updating its Now Network for LTE speeds and expects to have the majority of the LTE network in place mid-year. It’s a reasonable projection that the upgraded model will appear around the same time.
