Facebook Messenger will no longer require a Facebook account for group messaging app

Facebook today announced that it will remove the requirement that users of its Messenger app have a Facebook account. While Messenger has attracted millions of users because of the ability to send free messages on Android and Apple iOS, it has not attracted as many users as other mobile messaging clients like WhatsApp. Eliminating the Facebook requirements has the potential to expose Messenger to a larger audience that can take advantage of the app’s group messaging and photo sharing features. Removing membership requirements is not available in all countries yet, but an update to the messaging app should arrive today to increase access for others.
