LG Optimus One Preview
The LG Optimus One was unveiled recently alongside the Optimus Chic, and the two handsets seem to show a new side to the manufacturer. Having only released a handful of Android devices in the past, it looks like they may be using the platform to re-invent themselves, after failing to deliver many competitive smartphones in recent times.
The LG Optimus One isn’t the best looking handset, coming with a curved, rubber chassis. It may not look great, but with its compact 113.5 x 59 x 13.3 measurements, it certainly seems like it will be comfortable to hold. It comes equipped with a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, a vast improvement on the resistive display we have seen on many of their previous releases. Underneath the display is a large bezel, accompanied by four clickable buttons: menu, home, back and search.
A standby button is located at the top of the chassis, with a volume key located on its side.
It seems LG may have focussed more on technology than fashion with their latest release, as although it doesn’t look “high-end”, its features seem to suggest otherwise.
Alongside a 600MHz processor, the handset comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo) on-board, immediately packing it full of Google apps (Search, Maps, Goggles), alongside a specifically designed user interface. The interface has been designed to be easy to use, and allows users to make it their own through customization. Access to the Android Marketplace is also available, providing users with the choice of up to 80,000 downloadable widgets.
The LG Optimus One also features a 3 megapixel camera, and although it lacks flash, it is what you would expect for a budget Android smartphone. The camera comes complete with autofocus, and is also capable of recording VGA video footage, which is of a fairly standard quality.
A media player is also on-board, providing you with the ability to watch video, listen to your music and listen to the radio. A 3.5mm audio jack is provided, so you can use your own headphones to boost the sound quality. With 70MB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB, you have plenty of storage for all of your music.
The handset also comes equipped with 3G and WiFi connectivity, allowing speedy access to web pages and social networking sites, alongside Swype, which makes messaging quick and easy.
With a 1500mAh battery, the budget smartphone also comes complete with up to 8 hours of talk-time.
