Motorola won’t update devices to Android 4.0 ICS if it won’t improve them

Last week, Motorola released an updated time-table for its smartphones and tablets that are due to get upgrades to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future. While many of the devices on the list were the expected contenders, such as the DROID RAZR, DROID RAZR MAXX, and XYBOARD tablets, fairly recent smartphones like the DROID 3 and DROID X2 were left out of the Ice Cream Sandwich party. Motorola has clarified its reasoning behind its decision to upgrade a device or not, and it may not be what users want to hear.

Sony Xperia U becomes available in the UK from Three

Do you remember the Sony Xperia U that we told you about not so long ago? The smartphone was supposed to be released in the UK early this month but was later pushed to May 28. It’s still a few days before the supposed launch date, but Three UK has already announced its availability, starting today on three.co.uk and from tomorrow at all Three stores in the UK.

If you’re in the UK right now and you’re interested in getting hold of the “cheapest” model among the current crop of Sony Xperia smartphones, then it’s just a matter of clicking on the order button online or waiting until tomorrow to buy it from a brick and mortar store. Note that you’ll need to sign up for the Essential Internet 100 plan, which will cost you £15 a month, or the Essential Internet 500 plan, which goes for  £20 a month. Both of the plans are “fear-free”, meaning that you won’t be overcharged for using more over your monthly allowance. If you prefer to get the phone without the monthly fees, you can opt to get it via Three’s Pay As You Go package, which will cost you £179.99.

As a review and also to prepare you on what to expect from the Sony Xperia U, its key specs and features are: 3.5-inch display with Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology, 5MP camera with Exymoor R sensor technology and 1.5 second image capture, 1GHz dual-core processor, color-matching illumination strip, changeable color caps, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The good news is that Sony promises to roll out the Android 4 ICS update in the coming days.

Pretty impressive features for a budget-friendly Android smartphone, right? So who’s getting the Sony Xperia U?

Galaxy Note Olympic Edition shows up, to be sold in the UK by O2

As you probably already know, Samsung is the official sponsor of the London 2012 Summer Olympics, which means one thing and one thing only for us tech enthusiasts. Several of the company’s gadgets will be redesigned, rebranded, and receive special editions, to celebrate the Games and get us all in an Olympic fever pitch.

The Galaxy S3 has already been announced as the event’s official device a few weeks back, but we were certainly expecting more Olympic marketing push from Samsung. Ask and you shall receive, because we’ve just heard news of a special Galaxy Note Olympic Edition set to be sold in the UK.

The redesigned gadget has (unofficially) popped up on Twitter for the first time, but we’re already certain that this is an official gadget, which will be released in the close future. Unfortunately, UK tech users/sports lovers will be the only ones to enjoy this Union Jack-donning Note edition, as it will apparently only be sold in Great Britain.

While we don’t have any official confirmation on the matter, it’s safe to assume that the redesigned Galaxy Note will feature the same tech specs as the original “phablet”, including a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, a dual-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor and 1 GB of RAM. There will probably be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, though, as the Note has finally been updated in Europe more than a week ago.

The design will itself be the same in most part, but you shouldn’t be surprised if the new Galaxy Note will be just a tad thicker than the original one. We also don’t know exactly if the back cover has been replaced and if the UK flag is actually printed on it. What we’re seeing in the photo above might be just a glossy sticker, but we will surely let you know when we will find out.

The UK-special Galaxy Note Olympic Edition will be sold exclusively through O2, according to gsmarena’s sources, but it’s possible to see a bunch of such gadgets with different flags imprinted on them released in other countries. There will also be a Galaxy Y special edition released in the near future, and, for every purchase of the new gadget, Samsung will donate £1 (around $1.55) for “Team GB athletes of the future”.

Furthermore, if you live in the UK and you want to get a Samsung high-end phone right now, you can purchase any Galaxy Note, S2, or Nexus from here and you get a pair of free tickets for an Olympic football match of choice. And you know, Beckham will be there, so you can be certain that you’ll see a great show!

What do you guys think about the new Galaxy Note Olympic Edition? Will you be looking to purchase one once it will be released? How about you, US sports enthusiasts? Would you like your own Note with a 50-star flag on its back?

Not all of this found its way back in. The bag went through the wash and much of the unneeded paperwork and any dead pens got filed away.

This videos shows the work of Thorsten Buering, which was a PhD student at the workgroup of human-computer interaction from 2004 – 2007. Mobile Information Visualization has the objective to design, develop and user-test visual interfaces that allow users to search and explore large information spaces on small screens. In particular, we are interested in interactive scatterplot applications (also known as starfield interfaces) that use compact abstract representations of data rather than space consuming words to present information. Below you will find abstracts and articles about the work we have done so far to improve the visualization and interaction of such applications on pen-driven devices. Feel free to contact us. Question by OO: How can I change the settings in my intuos4 to make my pen stop dragging, zooming, and moving forward?
I use my tablet to draw, but whenever I go into a Pchat and make rapid, long vertical lines, the pen automatically drags and it makes it quite difficult to draw. I’ve tried going on “Wacom Tablet Properties” but I don’t know what to click to make it stop. I also don’t like the little circle that appears around the arrow in the monitor whenever I press hard on the pen. Grr. ;__; Help me please

I would think there should be options that can be changed in your control panel maybe in the hardware and sound section in the control panel of windows
