“Qi” wireless power standard defined

The Wireless Power Consortium has finalized a new low power wireless standard called Qi. The specification is available to members of the Wireless Power Consortium now and will be available to everyone on August 30th, 2010. According to Ars Technica, the specification, dubbed “Qi,” uses up to 5 watts of power, which is enough to charge the many gadgets we use that typically charge via a USB plug. Manufacturers with devices certified to use the standard in the future will be able to publish the “Qi” logo on their boxes.
