Review: Hermes Nokia N900 App

Hermes N900 Maemo app1 300x180 Review: Hermes Nokia N900 AppHermes is an application for the Nokia N900 which allows users to integrate contacts across social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. It links pre-existing contacts on the device with a Facebook account and matches local entries with those on the configured sites.

If a contact matches with one in the cloud, it updates the existing contacts with a photo, birthday, profile URLs and homepage from Facebook or Twitter – whichever is applicable. Hermes is smart enough to overcome small differences in the names. It also updates the calendar with birthday information from Facebook.

The application works in two modes :

1. Retrieve: In this mode, Hermes will draw-in all the information for existing contacts and will add in all the missing details.

2. Refresh: In this mode, the app will start a fresh database of contacts with information from social networking services. It overwrites all existing contacts so users should exercise caution while using it.

New handsets focused on social networking already incorporate this function, although Maemo, being widely open, allows programmers to develop apps which can play with almost any component of the N900.
