Sales of the Samsung Tocco Lite have reached 10 million globally in the space of 6 months – this is a new company record for Samsung, proving to be a very popular low end touchscreen mobile phone. This comes as no surprise as the handset has been a top seller for mobiles.co.uk ever since its launch.

5 million of the 10 million sales were made in Europe, which is where the touchscreen handset was first launched. The Tocco Lite also topped the best seller lists in parts of the UK, Italy and the Netherlands.

Sales for the Tocco Lite beat the company record of the 10m sales made of Samsungs E250 Slider in the space of 10 months back in 2006.

Vice president of marketing for the Samsung Mobile Communications division Young-hee Lee said: “We’ve entered an era where full touch-screen mobiles are mainstream devices and we are very pleased with the broad popularity of the Samsung Tocco Lite.

“Samsung is aiming to take the lead in the global touch-screen mobile market with our diverse product line up and customised, unique marketing approach.”

So what is that that makes the Samsung Tocco Lite so popular? The handset is labelled as an entry level touchscreen mobile with a focus on fun. A built in 3.15 megapixel camera is on board which captures the subject and delivers sharp results. The touchscreen comes in at 3.0 inches which is a good size to be able to read text and view your photos in great detail. In order to navigate around the phone, you can either use your hand or the accompanying stylus, and handwriting recognition is also supported. The Tocco Lite is also good for listening to music, and with a memory of 50MB and expandable memory there is enough room to store all of your favourite tunes.

The Tocco Lite is proof that a handset doesn’t need to benefit from ’smart’ features and services in order to be successful, as the handset can still run efficiently offering users a range of facilities.
